LITERARY SECTION MEETS The literary section held the first meeting for the year in (lie Wilson Hall, King street, on Tuesday, the new president (Mr T. K. MTnnes) in the chair. The attendance of members, old and new, was very encouraging. The Rev. J. Pringle spoke of Isobel Cameron and her very popular works, reading extracts from some of them. ‘The Doctor ’ was the Rev. Robert Cowan, D.D., of Elgin, and the authoress was the wife of the minister of Hopeman, ou the Moray Firth, eight miles from Elgin. The readings selected illustrated (ho amiable character of “Dr Lindsay” and Ins consummate tact in dealing with all the diverse personalities with whom he came in contact. The old-world religious conservation was depicted, as well as the wonderment created by modern inventions such as the gramophone, radio, and motor. Heartmoving pathos and bubbling humour were intermingled without any sense of incongruity. The speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks on the motion of Mr Bell, and supper was served, after which a social hour was spent.
