SLIP IN CITY
BACKYARD BLOCKED UP TONS OF BOULDERS BROUGHT DOWN Certain residents of Alexandra terrace, Maclaggau street, live directly in the lee of a hillside which bristles with rock and scrub and which ends at their back fences. At half-past 10 last night, when the rain was falling, the occupants of one of these houses were, startled by what they first thought was an earthquake, but which on investigation, was found to be a slip which had deposited a few tons of boulders in the yard, which was completely blocked up, the corrugated iron fence having been forced almost to the back door. ' What would have happened had the slip occurred during the daytime, when young children would probably have been playing in the yard can only be conjectured. As it was, apart from the destruction of the fence and the inconvenience to the occupants of having their backyard converted into an outsize rockery, che Only damage done was to a bicycle which got in the way of the falling debris.
