DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE LATEST QUOTATIONS

AUSTRALIAN BONDS RECOVERY ON NEW YORK MARKET Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright NEW YORK, March 15. Australian Government bonds, which latterly have shown signs of slight weakness, recovered their lost ground to-day. The market generally was quiet but firm. Most commodities gained, with cotton, domestic sugar, and crude rubber reaching new high ground for the season. The co-operation o! the provinces in carrying out Canada’s wheat policy was assured to-day after the conclusion of discussions between Federal and provincial wheat experts. The best ways of reducing acreage and the transference of wheat acreage to coarse grains were considered. The Government decided to limit wheat deliveries in the coming year to 230,000,000 bushels, requiring a greatly reduced wheal acreage.

QUIET OPENING QUOTATIONS REGAIN FIRM The list of shares quoted at, the first call-over on the Dunedin Stock Exchange was more restricted than usual this morn-’ ing, but prices remained linn and buyers were bidding freely, with little response from sellers. Tu the Government loan section the March, 1940-43 stock was sought, ex interest, at par. The War Loan bid advanced another eighth. Insurances were firm.' National Hanks were on offer at £1 18s, and New Zcalamls were firm. Kailangala Coals were wanted at £1 10s 3d There was a bid for Hume Pipe (ex dividend) at 12s 6d. Felt, and Textiles were on offer at £2 2s 6d. Breweries remained static at last week’s figures, with little inlered displayed, and the Australian mining section was no more lively. Buyers were not -interested in any Dominion mining ventures. SALES REPORTED. —Friday.— Broken Hill rights (late, two), 17s 6d. POSITION IN CHICAGO CHICAGO, March 15. The wheat market endeavoured to rally, but made little headway, and closing prices were practically unchanged. PRODUCE MARKET Reilly’s report that the stone fruit season is practically over. Heavy supplies of apples are being received, including some very line quality Cox's Orange, which are on otter at very reasonable values. In cooking apples, good quality Dunn’s Favourite are available. Consignments of pears arriving arc ample for present requirements. Largo supplies of tomatoes continue to arrive. Unfortunately the majority are a little on the ripe side, and therefore prices are low. Consignments of grapes arriving are equal to the demand. A distribution of Australian oranges made dua--ing the week met with a good inquiry. Ripo bananas are unprocurable. There is an inquiry for most lines of vegetables. Cauliflowers and lettuces are in fair supply, but cabbages arc short, the Drumhead variety being finished. Consignments of both French and scarlet runner beans are bringing good prices. Carrots and parsnips are un short supply and high values are being maintained. Supplies ' of marrows and pumpkins are sufficient for the present inquiry. There is an inquiry for King Edward potatoes. The quality of the honey coming to hand is excellent, and consignments are meeting with a good demand. Values of eggs remain unchanged with an excellent inquiry. There was a fair penning of birds for Wednesday’s poultry sale, with good prices being secured for all lines. MINING NEWS NGAHERE DREDGE. The Ngahere Gold Dredging Ltd. return for the half-month ended March 14- ,was 1390 z for 49,526 yards worked in 99 hours. Owing to a breakdown of the top tumbler the dredge has not been operating since March 8. GILLESPIE’S BEACH. . • Last week’s return -from the Gillespie’s Beach Gold Mining Company totalled 220 z of gold for 134 hours working, in which 16,096 yards of material were worked.
