New stamps from France have made their appearance in the United States. These stamps coming from Unoccupied France are of various designs. One set of four semi-postals has been issued for national aid, and consists of an 800 plus 2fr in black-brown colour, showing men and women in a grain harvesting scene, the men cutting while tl’io women bundle and stack the cut grain; a ll'r plus 2fr, brown, picturing a man sowing a newly-ploughed area, and in the background may bo scon the farmhouse and a horse drawing a harrow; a l.SOfr plus 2fr, violet, shows a vineyard at harvest time with a group of fruit pickers at work; and a 2.501 T plus 2fr, green, shows a pastoral scene.

A distinct appeal for aid to war victims comes in the form of a special Itr plus 2fr stariip in grey-violet colour, picturing a nurse comforting a wounded man and a mother and child. The legend “ Pour nos Victimes de la Guerre ” appears at the bottom of the stamp. . A new value has been received in the Balzac type, the colour remaining the same bright violet and the value now is Ifr plus 10c. A 50fr value honours the French aviator Guynemer, and pictures the ace leaning against the hood of the motor. The colour of the stamp is blue. , ~ Bohemia and Moravia. —the 20 korunas stamp of the current series has appeared in a light grey' brown colour instead of the darker brown, and the postage due set has two new values, 80h and 1.20kr. Bolivia.—An airmail series of stamps is expected soon to honour the new Columbus Lighthouse- in the Dominican Republic. Also a series to honour recent heroes of state, and another stamp to honour Pedro Domingo Murillo. Greece.—Greek stamps have been overprinted “ Ellyniki Dyikisis ’’ (Greek Administration), and are valid for postage only in occupied Albania. Lithuania. —Three news stamps have been added to the regular set. These are the 10 cental, green, picturing a symbolic winged figure standing at a plough; the 25c, brown, with a woman and two children, and the 35c, orange, picturing a horse. Hungary has issued two new sets of stamps, one of a charitable nature and the other a special set in honour of art and Hungarian artists. The charity set is composed of three stamps, the values ot wjiich are the IU, 2U, and 32 tillers, witn a surtax of 5U tillers each, which surtax will go towards the Transylvanian charities. Transylvania was ■ only recently returned to Hungary, and the charity movement is under the direct supervision of the wife of the Regent of Hungary. On the first value of the set, lOf plus 50f, a soldier is shown on the march towards Transylvania. On the 20f plus 50f, are shown figures symbolic, of the return of the province to Hungary, and on the 32f plus 50t is pictured a Transylvanian mother kneeling and holding aloft a child. The art set of stamps is four in number.' This set is also a semi-postal series, the 6f plus 6£ value pictures a winged female figure; the IDf plus lUt value pictures, a male figure symbolising the sculptor the 16f plus 16f value pictures a female figure symbolising the artist, and the 20f plus 20 f value shows Pegasus, the winged horse. The inscription on the stamps is white against a coloured background, and the figures, appear in bas-relief. Albania.—As an aftermath ot _ the successes of the Greeks in Albania a series of 25 stamps will he overprinted in Greek to denote occupation by Greek troops. Bulgaria.—Six stamps have been released portraying famous Bulgarians in history. The 1-leva value in green colour pictures the poet Petko Slavcikov; the 2-levas, crimson, pictures Bishop Sofronii, the author; the 31, brown, pictures Rilski, patron saint of the Bulgars; the 4), orange, pictures Marin Drinov, historian and educator; the 71, blue, pictures Khrabr, a translator of religious books, and the 101, violet-brown, pictures Nikola Fichev, also called Ficheto, a master builder. Netherlands.—A now senes of Voor Het Kind or “ For the Children ” charity stamps has been placed on sale. The set is of five values, and follows similarly the designs of the 1938 and 1939 charity stamps. The new design pictures a child kneeling before a blooming plant and gazing at it intently. Under the child’s arm is a doll. The set consists of 11c plus lie, blue; the 2ic plus 2ic, olive; the 4c plus 3c, ‘ blue; the 5c plus 3c, deep green, and the 7ic plus 7ic, brown. Palestine.—Three new stamps have been announced all of which will have the same design showing the Sea of Galilee. The values are 250 mils, 500 mils, and 1 pound. Slovakia.—A new 5k air mail stamp has been issued showing a modern plane in upward flight, while in the shadowy background is pictured an eagle likewise in upward flight. The stamp is printed in dork purple. Straits Settlements.—The 2c, 6c, and 8c values of the current set arc reported to have been printed in new colours, these being orange, grey, - and red for the respective values. Switzerland. The Pro-Juventute issue of four stamps has recently appeared in America., This set of fourvalues is quite interesting. The 5c plus So in green colour pictures Gottfried Keller, the 10c plus sc, brown, pictures a girl from Thurgau; the 20c plus sc, red-orange, pictures a girl Irom Solothurn. and the 30c plus 10c, blue, pictures a girl from Zug. Tunis.—New colour changes have been noted on some of the current stamps. The 50c is now emerald green, the 80c, deep brown, and the If a rose red. , Yugoslavia. —Two new values nave appeared in the present set. These are the" sd, bine, and the 5.50 d, grey-violet.
