AUTOCRACY IN GOVERNMENT.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —“ Quo Vadis ” cannot fail to make some kind of an impression upon tho members of the community when writing upon the above-named subject. The composition is supposed to be written for the purpose of warning the Labour section of the people against those creatures who seek economic security by crawling into the service of tbe Government, and thereby acquire soma brief authority over other creatures under the guise of social service. If tbe warning is meant to save tho people from the dangers of National Socialism as it operated in Germany, would the writer state how tho German people attained their mighty power? If the socialistic ceremony of signing forms is so detrimental to tho German people how- do they attain such efficient organisations? We must he ready to admit that tho New Zealand Government’s socialistic legislation will contain defects, but do the beneficiaries of it feel that the request to fill in a form is more painful than the benefits they receive by supplying tho necessary information? The message of warning given by your correspondent is much nearer mental lunacy than tho filling in of forms. Let tho community of New Zealand march on, for they belong to the vanguard force of the world. Tho Germah people might have been more honoured in the world to-day if they had continued to develop a system of national socialism in lieu of national militarisation, thus forcing the nations of the world to abandon peaceful pursuits for war-like preparations.—l am, etc..
