Mr Justice Kennedy will leave on Monday morning to preside over the quarterly sessions of the Supreme Court at Invercargill. Mr A. B. Carter, editor of the ‘ N.Z. Tablet,’ left for Christchurch by the express this morning to attend the celebrations in connection with His Lordship Bishop Brodie’s silver jubilee. Hon. M. Connelly. M.L.C., Hon. A. Campbell, M.L.C.. and Mr P. Neilson, M.P., returned yesterday from Wellington. Mr L. lo F. Ensor, M.A., B.Sc., Dip. Ed., senior science master of the King’s High School, has been appointed to tlfe position of inspector of secondary schools in science and mathematics. Mr R. M‘Keen, M.P., was recently elected by the Wellington Labour Representation Committee as the Labour Party’s candidate for the mayoralty of Wellington at the forthcoming election. A member of the City Council for some years. Mr M'Keen represents Wellington South in the House of Representatives and is chairman of committees. Members of the mechanical staff of the ‘ Evening Star ’ met this morning to extend felicitations to Mr James M’Clelland, who is about to be married. Mr G. B. Smith, in presenting him with a set of carvers, referred to the recipient’s many fine qualities. Northern delegates to the Libraries Conference left by the express to-day. These included' Mr J. Members of the mechanical (Staff of the • Otago Daily Times 1 gathered yesterday afternoon to say farewell to Mr H. Smeaton, who is retiring after a long period of service with the company. On behalf of the management, Mr H. Harris congratulated Mr Smeaton on his long association with the paper and wished him well in his retirement. Mr Smeaton. he said, had joined the staff in 1884 and had been associated with the paper practically ever since. He had proved himself a good workman and a good workmate.
