In consequence very little •was seen in the way of smart frocking, in fact, a sea of raincoats, with umbrellas that gave a welcome touch of colour, was the genera! impression gained from the stands. One or two scarlet coats were seen. One worn with a chic little black felt hat with a scarlet feather was particularly noticeable in the rather drab surroundings. Advance autumn millinery shows a decided tendency to go “ high-hatted,” and a few smart models were seen, including the new “ Winston Churchill ” model. Visitors from the north and from the country districts were present in large numbers, and helped to swell the crowd of city patrons, who journeyed to Wingatni when shops and offices closed at noon.
