Admiral Byrd, the Antarctic explorer, while at the United States Naval Academy, was called upon to conduct a short course. One morning his fellow-pupils wrote on the blackboard:, “Hail to thee, blithe spirit j Bird thou never wert.” Two minutes later Byrd stalked in, stared at the blackboard, glared at his class, and snapped: “ Who wrote that?” Twenty voices replied, “Shelley!”
