Mr W'alter Beck, formerly well known in musical • circles in Dunedin, is, with. Mrs Beck, visiting this city from Auckland, where they have resided for a number of years. Hon. T. F. O’Byrne, M.L.C., secretary of the Southland branch of tho New Zealand Timber Workers’ Union, was congratulated by members at the branch’s annual meeting on the success of his efforts, during the 37 years he has been secretary, to build a strong union. A British official wireless message retorts that the King has approved of the appointment c: c Vice-Admiral John H. D. Cunningham to be Lord Commissioner of the Admiralty and Chief of Supplies and Transport, in succession to Vice-Admiral Geoffrey Arbuthnot, who has been appointed Commander-m-Chief in the East Indies, in succession to Vice-Admiral Ralph Lcatham.
