BIG BOXING BOUT ATTEMPT TO MATCH RICHARDS AND STRICKLAND [Per United Press Association.] PALMERSTON N., December 28. Negotiations are now proceeding with the aim. of matching,Eon Richards, the well-known Australian, light heavyweight boxer, in a bout in New Zealand with Strickland, who won on points his contest with the Alabama Kid. Mr Lucas, the boxing promoter who assisted the Mauawatu Association in staging the Strickland-Alabama Kid fight, has already received a reply from Richards’s manager that Richards would fight in New Zealand. “ The whole matter now hinges on whether Richards can get his money out of New sUal*nd.” said Mx •~I do nob expect that there will be further- developments until next week, but in the meantime I have not been in communication with anyone as to where the fight might take place, and there has been no suggestion that Strickland might go to Australia so that each boxer could contribute to the other’s purse, and neither would have to take money away. The purse will naturally have to be heavy, but I still think the fight will take place.”
