STATE OF BEACHES
CONDITIONS FOR HOLIDAY BATHING CARE NECESSARY Generally speaking, the beaches about the city arc in good order fop bathing during the holidays, and the temperature of the water is mild. If the weather continues fine over the week-end, no doubt large numbers of people will bo bathing, and it would bo advisable to stay within the places marked out by T flags, thus making iteasier for. the beach patrols of lifesavers to keep a watchful eye on tho crowds. At St. Clair to-day the water wa* very mild. Tho beach is safe at lowtide, but care needs to he exercised at high tide owing to the presence of a bank of sand. Bathers are particularly asked to keep between the flags. Several bathers at St. Clair have recently suffered from cuts on the feet from pieces of broken .bottles, and people are asked not to leave or break bottles on the sand. At St. Kilda the beach is in excellent condition, the sea being moderate and the water mild. There is a slight dip on the northern side of the flags, between which people are asked to bathe. Conditions of water and weather were good at Tomahawk to-day. Here again bathers are asked to bathe between the flags, outside which there are holes in the sand.
