TWO COUNCILLORS STANDING MESSRS N. D. ANDERSON AND J. H. HINTON Crs N. D. Anderson and J. H. Hinton, of the St. Kilda Borough Council, have declared their intention of contesting the borough mayoralty at the elections to he held next May. Or Anderson has been a member of the council for approximately nine years, and during that period he has twice been deputy-mayor. He is, in fact, deputy-mayor at the present time. He also represented the boroughs of St. Kilda and Green Island on the Metropolitan Fire Board, an office he held for one term of three years. Cr Anderson became a member of the

borough association formed for the relief of distress during the depression, and was active with that organisation from the time of its inception until the time of its close. For a good many years he served as auditor to the association. In other matters pertaining to the borough Cr Anderson has been for six years on the St. Clair School Committee, and he is a member of the School Committees’ Association. Cr Hinton became a member of the council some six years ago, and was at once appointed chairman of the Works Committee. He has occupied that post ever since, and is recognised as an authority. Like Cr Anderson, he played a considerable part in the relief of distress in the borough during the depression, and latterly has been associated with packing parcels for soldiers and goods collected on behalf of the Lady Galway Guild. He represents St. Kilda on the Otago Provincial Board for the Reclamation of Waste Materials. He has been a prominent member of the St. Kilda Bowling Club for many years. He was president in 1927, and has been secretary for the past 10 years. He is a past president of the Dunedin Bowling Centre. Cr Hinton has also been closely connected with the friendly societies movement for the past 25 years.
