FOOD PROBLEMS
DIFFICULTIES IN BRITAIN CAREFUL USE OF MILK URGED (British Official Wireless.) (RUGBY, November 26. (Received November 27, at 12.25 p.m.) Indications of food difficulties came from several quarters to-day. Lord Woolton, in a speech, appealed to the public to be careful in using milk in the next two months, although rationing was not proposed. An official order prohibits the use of liquid milk, including skimmed milk, in the manufacture of ice cream from December 1. Mr R. S. Hudson, in the House of Commons, said a further increase in home food production was vital, particularly edible crops and milk. Lord Woolton also pointed out that the shortage of sweets was due to the restriction on sugar available for the manufacture of these. The scarcity ot ■lab chocolate was due to members of the auxiliary fire services and canteen (workers receiving priority. The Colonial Office informed the country’s largest banana importers that no more licenses were being granted to import bananas into Britain.
