OTAGO CENTRE MEETING

" The Otago Swimming Centre met last night, the president (Mr W. A. Jenkins) being in the chair. Advice was received from the Port Chalmers Club that it desired to affiliate this year, and that.it was holding an opening day at Innes Bay (back beach) on Saturday. Messrs E. C. Isaacs, D. C. Bannatyne, J. M'Taggart, and Mrs M’Taggart were appointed to represent the centbe at the function, and the secretary was authorised to arrange for a number of swimmers to visil Port Chalmers to give demonstrations. He was also instructed to supply the Port Chalmers Club with information as to affiliation In reply to a circular sent to the secondary schools offering the centre’s facilities and assistance in coaching to those boys who desired to take up water polo, a letter was received from Mr W. G. Aldridge, principal of the Technical College, that 36 boys bad stated that they would take advantage of such an offer, and even if the number were discounted, Mr Aldridge said it would seem probable that the boys of the school would welcome the opportunity which the centre intended to offer. Mr Jenkins expressed appreciation of the response from the Technical College, and it was left, to Mr D. E Watson, chairman of the Water Polo Match Commit tec, to make arrangements for the coaching of the boys. It was decided to play a water polo match between intermediate and junior teams at the centre’s carnival next Monday night The selectors were instructed to select two teams, and also to select 20 intermediate and junior players to practise for the match with a Southland intermediate ond junior team later in the season.
