HOLIDAY RACING

1 AUSTRAUSiAN RECORD ! CERTISSIMUS’S TIME AT FORBURY PARK A SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE BIG TOTALISATfIR TURKOVER Tlic weather for the concluding day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club's meeting was perfect, bright sunshine without any wind, and the attendance was about thn largest ever seen on the course. The crowd was treated to an excellent day's racing, and some close finishes were provided. As would be expected on such a perfect track, times were fast throughout the afternoon, and Certissimus established an Australasian record for a three-year-old straight-out trotter when he won the opening event in 3min 20 1-ssec. His performance was all the more meritorious because he began badly, losing four or five seconds before striking his gait. The totahsat.or handled £37,983, as compared with £29,291 10s on the second day last year, making the total for the meeting. £66,482, as against £49,531 invested at the 1939 spring meeting. The meeting was excellently managed and was one of the most successful fixtures the club has held. Concluding results:— BIRTHDAY HANDICAP, £400; second 70, third 20. Class 4.32. Both Smile Again and Cruiser lost their chances at the start, and Ringtrue led through the straight from Wee Potts, Smile Again, who came right across the course, Harold Guy, Regal, and Loyal Rey. There was practically no change in this order until entering the last lap, where Ringtrue was still in charge, with Wee Potts, Regal, Loyal Rey, and Smile Again together, and Peter Smith and King Potts next. Peter Smith improved his position racing along the back, and after rounding the far turn was lying fourth to Ringtrue, Wee Potts, and Regal. These three turned into the straight just in front of Smile Again, Peter Smith, Accountant, and King Potts. Loyal Rey headed the leaders halfway down the straight, then King Potts put in his claim, and, finishing in the centre of the track, beat Loyal Rey by a short neck.
