TAIERI RIVER TRUST

MONTHLY MEETING Mr H. W. Wilson (chairman) presided at the monthly meeting of the Taieri River Trust. Mr R. Harrison, secretary of the Otago Labourers’ Union, wrote asking that ,an allowance he made to the men required to work in gumboots.—Received. Mr R. S. F cup well advised that Mr J. A. Shaw, of Henley, proposed claiming damages for loss caused through flooding, which he stated was due to the trust opening the pipe under the contour channel and allowing extra water on to his property during the flood; —It was decided to decline responsibility

Mr G. S. Bathgate and several other rate. flayers wrote opposing the proposal to ew arge the culvert through the Beehive road.

Mr J. Bathgate and other ratepayers suggested holding a conference between the trust and all interested parties.—lt was decided that the conference be held before the meeting on December ? The Works Committee was instructed to inspect the road to Mr J. Fraser’s property at Berwick, it being stated that the road had been lowered, and it was contended that flood water from the Waipori River could now get across the road. It was decided to take steps to destroy the rabbits in the Taieri River embankment and the contour channel embankment.

The Chairman reported that three men had commenced during the month under scheme 13 on a subsidy basis, and had been engaged cleaning Lee Creek and repairing flood damage on the Waipori River. .
