—Vice-Regal.— The Governor-General, Viscount Galway, and Lady Galway paid an official visit yesterday afternoon to the Otago Museum. This morning His Excellency met the Otago Provincial Patriotic Council in the Council Chambers, and Lady Galway met the Lady Galway Guild at the Town Hall, after which, she Inspected the guild rooms and was entertained by the committee at morning tea. This afternoon their Excellencies took part in a motor drive to Otago Peninsula, with afternoon tea. at Larnach Castle. This evening at 7.30 a visit will be paid to the Navy League Sea Cadet_ Corps at their quarters in the Garrison Hall, Dowling street, after which His Excellency will inspect the guard of honour facing tho Municipal Chambers in the Octagon. At 8 o’clock His Excellency and Lady Galway will attend the citizens’ farewell gathering in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall. —Ministerial.— The Minister of Finance (Mr Nash)] arrived at Auckland from the south yesterday. He addressed members of branches and affiliations of the New Zealand Labour Party in the Town Hall Concert Chamber last night, and today he was to speak at a luncheon meeting of the New Zealand Institute of Business Executives. The Minister, will meet members of the- Grey Lynn branch of the Labour Party in tho evening, and to-morrow he will visit the Papakura and Ngaruawahia military camps. Mr Nash will address a public meeting at the Town Hall toxnonrow night on ‘ War and Finance.' On Thursday he will speak at the luncheon of the Optimists’ Club, and leave for the south in the evening.

Mr L. H. Prude left this morning for Wellington. Advice was received by the Otago Swimming Centre at its meeting last night that New Zealand honorary association blazers had been awarded to Messrs Sam Brown and Don Watson in recognition of their services to swimming.

The promotions of the following flight-lieutenants to be squadron-lead-ers (temporary) are gazetted:—A. G, Hester, C. C. Hunter, J. R. Agar, E., M. Lewis, A. C. Parson (territorial Air Force), George Carter (Territorial Air Foce), and G. R. White (Reserve of Officers). Flying-officer L. E. Cooke has been promoted to acting flight-lieuten-ant.

Sir Harry Batterhee, High Commissioner for Great Britain in New Zealand, expects to visit the South Island in the latter part of this month. He is planning to be in Christchurch from November 21 to 25, and in Dunedin from November 25 to 27. He will go to the West Coast on November 28: He will be accompanied by Lady Batterbee. A British official wireless message from Rugby states that Brian, son of Mr J. J. Cabanans, Lowndes street, London, and formerly of Christchurch, is affianced to Elizabeth, daughter of a Wellingtonian, Mr A. A. P. Mackenzie. Miss Mackenzie is at present living at Hampstead.

A social and dance was held at the Seacliff Public Hall in honour of Lancecorporal F. Quill, a member of an old Seacliff family. The large attendance of residents bore testimony to the high respect in which the Quill family has been held. Mr W. R. Rohson presented Lance-corporal Quill with a pocket, wallet and a sum of money on behalf of the Seacliff Soldiers’ Farewell branch of the local Patriotic Committee and residents of the districts. A! most welcome addition to the programme was the unique entertainment provided by the Karitane Maori party. Staying at the Grand Hotel are M< and Mrs J. H.
