SENTENCE ON WOMAN NEW APPLICATION BY COUNSEL Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright MELBOURNE, November 4. Tlte order made by Mr Justice Foster sentencing Edna Francos Isaacs to 14 days in custody for contempt of court was stayed to-day ou application by counsel. A new order was made calling upon the bailiff to show cause why he should not be prohibited from executing the judge’s order. Since the custody order was made the woman has been in a private hospital, and 1 medical evidence was given that she was unable to attend the court. The basis of the application to-day was that Mr Justice Foster line! no power to sentence her for a criminal offence without calling on her to show cause why she should not bo punished for contempt of court.
