REMARKABLE FINISH
EXCITING END TO BOWLING MATCH Excitement ran High at the end of a bowling match between Caversham and Otago on the Otago Club’s green on Saturday afternoon. In a section game, in which three rinks wore engaged, the scores were level at the end of 21 heads. The aggregate totals in the section were the same, and the scores in each rink were the same, the details being:—Forster 18, Best 18; Scott 21, Callender 21; M'Dougall 19, Sharp 19 (Caversham names first). Totals: Caversham 58, Otago S 3. This unusual position necessitated a playoff to decide the winner of the section, and the game between the rinks skipped by M’Dougall and Sharp, being the last to finish, was continued. In the first extra head the kitty was “ burned ” (the technical name for putting it out of play), and no decision was reached. Excitement among the spectators was still greater when the second extra head was played. Fortune fluctuated and Otago seemed likely to win, but M’Dougall drew the shot with his very jast bowl, the result being that hi? rink won by 20 to 19, and that Caversham won the section by 59 to 58.
