JAPANESE YOUTH FAVOURS GERMANY
Germany has the moral support of most Japanese boys and girls attending elementary and middle schools throughout Japan, Manchukuo, and Korean, In answer to a questionnaire, 70 pe* cent, of 4,872 replies favoured a German victory, 20 per cent.' wanted Britain and France to win the war, whil* 10 per cent, were neutral or indifferent* Some of the 70 per cent, were chagrined* however, at the non-aggression pact con*' eluded between Germany, and Russia* while it was given by others'.as th* reason for siding with Germany. Their fear that Britain and France might resort to measures disadvantageous to Japan by obtaining the help of America drove some to the side of Germany* Some were also charmed by the totalitarianism of Germany* while-* few expressed indignation at the Asama Mart* incident, when Britain stopped the vessel and removed a number of Germans escaping from America. Others wer»impressed by the scuttling of the Graf Spee, some admired Hitler, and soma were stimulated by their. sympathy toward the failure of Germany in th* last Great War._ Those who wished to see the Allies win were inspired by the fear that German victory might lead to a joint attack! against Japan by Germany and th* Soviet Union while some suspected that Germany was secretly assisting th* Chungking regime. Some were of th* opinion that both Britain and Franc* had friendly feelings for Japan,-though! the two Powers were not entirely innocent of unfriendly action. Some of the girls said they cried whe* they read the book published by th* wife of the Polish Ambassador lamenting the defeat of her mother country Among the 10 per cent, neutrals ther* were visions that whichever side win* the victor will extend itching lingers toward Japan. - There were a few who, said thev did not care who wins.—‘ Japan Time* Weekly.’
