Mr A. S. Cookson returned yesterday from the north. Mr H. H. Sterling, of Wellington, arrived yesterday in connection with the formation of a branch of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary in Otago. Mr I. D, Revie was a through passenger by the express from the north this morning on his way to Wellington to attend a meeting of the Meat Producers’ Board. Mr J. Faulks left this morning for Wellington. Mr C. 'E. Brian, assistant chief postmaster at Dunedin, who is at present relieving the chief postmaster at Hamilton, will aho act in a relieving capacity at both Palmerston North and Wanganui before returning t® Dunedin. Mr C. C. W. Clarke, who for the past three years'has been a member of th« patrol staff of the Automobile Association (Otago), has received an ap-’ pointment as inspector in the Transport Department. He will be stationed • at Gore, and will take up his duties on Monday. Mr A. E. Leggett, chief clerk in the railways district engineer’s office, Invercargill, has received advice that he hat been appointed on promotion to a similar position in Christchurch. Ha will be succeeded at Invercargill- by : Mr J. J. Hicks, second clerk , in the district engineer’s office at Dunedin. At the annual meeting of the Forbury Park Trotting Chib held last night, the president (Mr B. S. Irwin)j referred to the death of Mr R. T. Reid, the late president of the Waikato Trotting Club. Mr Reid, said Mr Irwin, _ had been for some years a stipendiary steward of trotting, but had returned to assume the presidency, of the Waikato Cub. He had been a most popular figure from one end of the Dominion to the other. The meeting passed a vote of sympathy with* the relatives of the deceased.
