R.A.F. Bombs Berlin Armament Factories Attacked HEAVY EXPLOSIONS HEARD Alarms in Many German Cities Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, August 26. 'An Air Ministry communique states that the Royal Air lorce continued its raids on military objectives in Germany last night. Bombs were dropped in north-western Germany, the Ruhr, and on armament factories in Berlin. Heavy anti-aircraft fire was encountered. The Berlin correspondent of the Associated Press says the raid on the German capital lasted three hours. The raiders circled amid dense clouds a few hundred feet over the city A * considerable number of leaflets were found. The raiders covered Prussia and Saxony extensively, and alarms were sounded m many cities, including Leipzig, where the fair opens to-day. Berlin admits that British planes flew over the city. At least four waves of planes took part. “ They dropped incendiary bombs on northern Berlin suburbs, destroying a but, but causing no casualties. No bombs fell in Berlin propel. A message from Berlin states that at least 10 heavy explosions occurred north-west of Berlin in the first 10 minutes after the air raid alarm was sounded shortly after midnight. The all-clear signal was sounded in Berlin after a raid lasting 80 minutes. The sound of heavy bombs falling was clearly audible in the centre of the city. Searchlights swept the skies, but failed to pick up any raiders. Machine guns rattled in a deafening manner. The explosions are believed to have been due to bombs falling 24 miles frbm the centre of the city. Raiders frequently flew directly over Hitler’s Chancellery.
