JOINT COMMITTEE MEETING The monthly meeting of the Joint Committee, Red Cross and St. John, was attended by Miss B. M'Lean (in the chair), Mrs Stanley Batchelor, Misses F. Rattray, C. Graham, B. Farquhar, Messrs A. N. Haggitt and Charles V. Smith, and the secretary (Mr E. J. Johnston). A letter was received from a former inmate of the Montecillo Home thanking the committee for benefits received and for kindnesses shown while in the home. An offer of a donation in regard to the heating system at the home was gratefully acknowledged. A request was received from a citizen with respect to making contact with relatives in Paris. No word had been received since the beginning of the year. —lt was resolved to forward a request through headquarters, Wellington. Reports ,from the hospital visitors were submitted by Miss M'Lean, Mrs Batchelor, and Miss Graham. These were 29 soldier patients at Dunedin Hospital, fire at Wakari, and six at Talboys. It was regretted that a patient at Wakari, an ex-imperial man. had'passed away. Miss Graham reported having seen Dr Roland Fulton regarding a patient on discharge from Dunedin Hospital. They thought that about three weeks at the Montecillo Home would be beneficial to him. It was decided that in the occasional absence of the hostess Miss Miller would attend to requirements of soldier patients.—lt was left with the secretary to procure certain stock. Matron Douglass reported that everything was going along satisfactorily at Montecillo. The patients themselves were assisting in many ways. Four patients had been admitted, two transferred to hospital, one discharged, and one bad passed away. There were 19 men now in the home. All deeply regretted the passing on of Ex-soldier A. Watson, who had been at the home for almost nine years, and who had always been most loyal and faithful. The Horne Committee reported that Sister M. King had_ been appointed to the nursing staff in place of_ Sister Moody (resigned).—The appointment was confirmed. Several matters concerning the home were discussed, and it was decided that the Home Committee follow up and report hack to the executive. Miss M'Lean was thanked for taking the chair in the absence of Mr Smeaton, who was in camp.
