HEALTHY OLD FOLK
VILLAGE OF METHUSELAHS Great Chart, near Ashford, in Kent, is a great little village. The population is only about 700, but it includes a number of octogenarians. Each of the last 11 residents to be buried was over 80. The church near which they lie is early English, and many of the cottages and farms date back hundreds of years. In the church is a brass tablet commemorating Captain Nicholas Toke, a seventeenth century squire, who even in those days, was giving Great Chart a reputation for longevity. Married and widowed five times, he set out to walk to London, 55 miles, at the age of 90. He was looking out for the sixth Mrs Toke. Uut his niatrinionial adventures came to naught, for he died on the nay.
