AOTEAROA IN STORM 40,009 LETTERS CARRIED OH RETURN FLIGHT Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, May 2. (Recoil ed May 2, at 12.5 p.m.) The air liner Aotearoa left at 4 this morning with live passengers. The plane earned about 40,000 letters, including 10,000 from England. Among tho letters is one of greeting from the Lord Mayor of Sydney to the Mayor of Auckland. IN ELECTRICAL STORM [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, May 2. At 10.30 a.m. (New Zealand time) tho Aotearoa radioed ; Flying at 9,300 foot at 173 miles per hour, passing through heavy rain and thunderstorm, sleet, and snow. The electrical storm forced the operator to close down radio connection for 18 minutes. At 1.30 p.m. tho Aotearoa radioed that the plane was expected to arrive at Auckland at 2.10 p.m. AUCKLAND, May 2. Tho Aotearoa radioed that, having passed out of unfavourable weather into good Hying conditions, she was about'loo miles from Auckland at 1.30 and was adhering to her predicted time, of arrival.
