DRUNK AT THE WHEEL
THREE MEN CONVICTED GAOL FOR PREVIOUS OFFENDER [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, May 2. Two months’ imprisonment with hard labour was the sentence imposed on Alexander M'Millan on a charge of being intoxicated in charge of a car, when the case was heard before Mr Levvey. The Magistrate pointed out that M'Millan had three previous convictions for similar otfences. His license was cancelled for live years. M'Millan, a commercial traveller, aged 37, admitted the charge. When James Wallace was noticed trying to start, a motor car yesterday afternoon he was seen to be intoxicated. The key was taken out of the car, and when a constable came along Wallace was sitting in the car. He was examined by a doctor and found to be unfit to drive. These circumstances were revealed when the accused appeared in court; Wallace, aged 25, of Scotland, admitted charges of being intoxicated in charge of a car, and unlawfully converting the car to his own use. On the first charge he was convicted and discharged. and on the second he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called on within 12 months. Wallace is a member of the crew of an overseas boat which sailed to-day. Charles T. Frederick Brown, aged 57, a farmer, was fined £2O on a charge of intoxication in charge of a car and had his license cancelled for four years.
