SHEEP RATES DECLINE 2/INGREASED FAT LAMB SCHEDULES Prime heavy bullocks were cheaper by 10s a head at the Burnside stock sales to-day, but medium bullocks and cows and heifers brought from lato parity, to a shade firmer. Good cows and heifers sold well at values 10s to 15s a head m excess of late rates. Some good prime heavy bullocks were forward, but the bulk comprised medium to light and unfinished grades, with the usual proportion of cows and heifers, included in which were a few consignments of heavy sorts. Poor de-. scriiptions made up a big tail end. There were 325 head forward. Good wethers -and ewes, of which there were not a great number forward, sold at values easily 2s a head higher than last week, in the fat sheep pens. Rather a bigger rise was shown on lighter sheep. Mostly medium to light and unfinished sorts comprised a smaller entry It was expected, because of the scarcity of good quality sorts, that the upward trend of the market would be retained to the finish. An increase of one farthing on freezing schedule rates made the fat lamb sale a good one, keen competition resulting, with both butchers and freezing buyers operating. The quality of the big yaa-ding was rough throughout. The quality in the, very large entry of about 120* head of vealers was good, prices being equal to last week. The best sold to £5 12s 6d; medium, from £3 10s to £4 5s j and light, £1- 10s to £2. Every pen was filled in the store cattle section—a big entry—in which several pens of good three and four-year-old bullocks were included. Prices for these were firm, but other sorts showed an easing of 10s a head. Best four-year-olds sold to £lO 14s; three-vear-olds, £8 to £9 ss; two-year-olds, from £5 15s to £7; and heifers, £3 10s to £5. Boner cows, which had a larger entry than usual, showed an increase in values. 10s a head. A good demand all round was shown for tho 180 head of fat pigs. Baconers were cheaper by 10s a head, selling at £4 10s to £6, or about Bsd lb. Porkers, which had a fair yarding, were back ss, bringing £3 3s to £4 a head, or about 9d lb. -There were 84 stores forward.
