Italy’s position remains most intriguing, an additional factor now being that Italy is digging trenches along the Austrian, but not the French, borders. Though this should not be over-em-phasised, there are indications of better Anglo-Italian relations. The Italian Press is giving more publicity to British war communiques. Italy’s position is complicated by the constant pressure exerted by Hitler on Signor Mussolini. HOSTILE REFERENCE TO BRITAIN APPLAUDED IN CHAMBER ROME, April 25. (Received April 26, at 1.30 p.m.) Francesco Giunta, who is a general in the Fascist militia, was applauded in the Chamber when he predicted that the war would become a war of peoples against the world’s “ wrongful property holders.” England’s traditional friendship for Italy was refuted by history and fact. He asked why Italy should not settle the problem of Mediterranean security, which the British Fleet compromised. THE SCAPA FLOW RAID NUMEROUS ENEMY AIRCRAFT NO DAMAGE OR CASUALTIES (British Official Wireless.) . RUGBY, April 25. (Received April 26, at 10.20 a.m.) In the early hours of this morning a joint Admiralty and Air Ministry communique was issuejl as follows: “ Numerous enemy aircraft attempted an attack on Scapa> Flow last night. Two bombs were seen to drop which fell on heather land, and one enemy aircraft made an abortive machine-gun attack on an open rpad. No damage or casualties resulted. The enemy were driven off by heavy anti-aircraft gunfire and by fighter aircraft of the R.A.F.” DANES IN BRITAIN NOT TO BE TREATED AS ENEMY ALIENS PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES BEING TAKEN LONDON, April 25. (Received April 26, at 8 a.m.) Replying to a question in the House of Commons, the Under-Secretary for the Homo Office stated that it was not proposed to treat the Danes, resident in Britain as enemy aliens. Many of them were anxious, Mr Peake added, to assist this country in the struggle against aggression and tyranny, of which Denmark had been made a victim. At the same time full precautionary measures being taken in respect to any individual who, whether possessing Danish or other nationality, was believed to be in eympathy with or likely to assist the enemy.
