GIRLS’ HIGH AGAIN

dual Success repeated LIFE SAVING AND RELAY , Repeating last year’s dual success, Otago Girls’ High School carried off the honours in the secondary schoolgirls’ relay and life-saving championships at the Municipal Baths on Thursday afternoon, this being the,- eighth year in succession that High School has won the life-saving shield. . Presenting the trophies at the conclusion of the contests, Mr B. F. Simonsen, representing the Otago branch of the Royal Life Saving Society, remarked that the standard of work ip the land drill and water work was a high one, and ahead of that shown last year. Girls’ High School established a slight lead over St. Hilda’s College in the land drill and resuscitation tests, and having a definite margin in its favour in the time tests in the water work, the Girls’ High team increased its lead to nearly 8 points, the position of runner-up being finally filled by Columbia College, whose water work was also very good. Dunedin Technical High School gained third place, and St. Hilda’s fourth, and it is worthy of mention that there was less than one point between the second, third, and fourth teams in the final aggregate. Girls’ High fielded a strong team in the relay, including the New Zealand junior free style champion, Ngaire Lane, and its win was very decisive. Technical High School being runners-up. The running team’s time of Imin 25 2-ssec was only 2 3-ssec outside the record established by Girls’ High School last year. Mr B. F. Simonsen was referee, Messrs P. A. Math'tson and C. Durand were the judges, and Mr A. Greig was timekeeper. Mr Simonsen handed the shields to the captain of the winning teams, Mary Stewart, after which cheers were exchanged by the competing teams. —Life Saving Teams. — St. Hilda’s .College.—B. Walden, B.
