GIRLS' LIFE BRIGADE

[By Captain]

Motto: To save life. Mevtfcfl of the G.L.B.Badge. Yh* cross in the centre reminds us that we belong to Jesus Christ, Who gave His' life for us. It symbolises service mnd sacrifice, and holds the central place in the crest to remind ns of the importance of the cross in our brigade life. Round the cross are four blue Batches, which stand for loyalty—knrattv to Jesus Christ, loyalty to our - eanrca. and Sunday school or Bible class. The complete white circle surrounding, the centrepiece stands f6r purity and troth, and for unity of purpose, all members being united by one ideal, and all necessary to complete the circle. On the white circle we see written our motto: To'sav©' life. The rays radiating from the cross indicate that the influence of our lives and ideals should radiate joy and happiness to others. They represent health and cheerfulness. The crown, surmounting all, reminds us that we serve a King, who though He‘received a crown of thorns on earth, received a kingly crown in heaven, and He> has promised to those who are faithful a crown of life. The motto; To save life, can be taken literally and spiritually—literoily, in the methods we learn of saving of life: first aid, home nursing, infant care, .life saving from _ fire and water; spiritually,' in saving lives from waste, in nsing them in Christ’s service, in developing all our powers that we may have a whole life to offer Him. and that no opoortunity may be wasted. Jesus said: “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” Every time we wear our badge or our crest may we remember what it stands for, and try to uphold its ideals.

Battalion Competitions. It hu been decided that the battalion competitions this year should consist of choir singing and versespeaking. The choir will again be restricted to 12 voices, with conductor and pianist from the ranks if possible, and the company may make its own selection of a sacred song. The colours of each company were carried into the •hall and were • displayed on the platform. Commissioner D. Earle, Dominion president of the G.L.8., read the scripture lesson, prayers were offered by Rev. F. de Lisle and Rev. P. L. A. Crampton, and the address was given by Rev. E. T. Olds, divisional chaplain of the G.L.B. A fine rendering of ‘ Marching Beneath the Banner ’ was given by the boys and girls combined, led by Mr 8.
