A KINDERGARTEN APPOINTMENT.

' TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The women of Opoho are to be congratulated on taking another step for the betterment of the district. A kindergarten has been formed and is receiving a fair measure of support. When the committee advertised! for a teacher several applications were received, and some had quite good qualifications, yet it is strange that the committee appointed a married woman with very few—if any—qualifications according to New/.Zealand standards. The fact that she is a German seems to have been overwhelming proof that she should receive the,-appointment. Perhaps the committee: may care, to, explain why New Zealand girls with much better ability were passed over in favour of a member of an enemy country. I may state-that I do not know any of the applicants, but feel that an injustice has been done to someone.—l am, etc., Britisher. April 16. • • • [We are informed that no New Zealand applicant was passed over who was at the time- engaged in kindergarten work; or was without employment, or, as a resident of the suburb,, could’fulfil special requirements - of the position.—’ Ed. B.S.] ’ „.
