CONVERSION CHARGE

NAVAL OFFICER'S OFFENCE KEY MAN ON SHIP [Pee United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 17. A naval officer, John Edward Leon Sevi (31), appeared in the Magistrate’s Court to-day and admitted a ‘charge of unlawfully converting a car, valued at £IOO. He also pleaded guilty to wilfully damaging a blanket and driving without a license. _ An officer from Sevi’s ship said the accused was a key man and was needed urgently. He was one of the steadiest men on the ship. The Magistrate said Sevi had put himself in an awkward position, but he would probably be of more use on ship than in doing hard labour. Sevi was convicted and discharged on the major charge, fined 10s for driving without-a license, and ordered to make good the value of the blanket.
