COMMUNISM AND THE SCHOOLS.

TO THE EDITOK. Sir, —The remarks made by Mr Keith Cameron at a recent meeting of the R.S.A. and published in your columns, have caused much distress to many teachers in this community. The executive of the Otago branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute has no hesitation in asserting that there is no more loyal body in this country than the teaching profession. Every teacher who enters the service takes the following oath of allegiance:—“ I, ,of ——, do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King George the Sixth, his heirs and successors, according to law. So help me God.” Sworn in the presence of and signed before a Justice of the Peace, solicitor of the Supreme Court, or chairman of an education board. Each week in all State primary schools all pupils and teachers sing the National Anthpm and salute our country’s Hag. It is to be regretted that Mr Keith Cameron should make public statements reflecting on a body whose allegiance to the Crown has never before been questioned. —We are, etc., Jas. W. Armstrong, President, Otago branch New Zealand Educational Institute. Apex. Hanna, Hon. Secretary. March 15. ‘
