NEW ZEALAND ART
CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION , In addition to those naturally inter.csted in rfew Zealand art, the public will find much of interest and entertainment in the National Centennial Exhibition of New Zealand art, the New Zealand premiere of which will take place in Dunedin next Monday. The exhibition, which is under the control of the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Parry), will have as its Dunedin location the Pioneer Hall (Early Settlers’ Hall), and the period of the exhibition will be February 20 to March 9, at hours advertised in this issue. The Postmaster-General (Mr Jones) will preside at the official New Zealand opening, which will take place at Dunedin at 8 p.m. on Monday. The exhibition is under the control of Dr A. H. M'Lintock, who will be in attendance at the official opening. The exhibition is the most complete survey of New Zealand art that has yet been made in the Dominion. Embracing the whole, field of art, from the sketches made by the earliest explorers and pioneers to the most interesting examples of contemporary art in all its phases, the exhibition should be one of the cultural achievements of the Centennial year. New Zealand has produced spme outstanding black and white artists, whose works overseas is well known and in great demand. Cartoonists, caricaturists, and book illustrators, all draughtsmen of a high order, have done much to establish New Zealand’s art reputation abroad. In the National Centennial Exhibition of New Zealand art a most comprehensive collection of contemporary and retrospective work in black and white has been assembled, and the collection bolds an honoured place in the display.
