WATERSIDERS DISSATISFIED STOPPAGES AT TWO PORTS [Pee United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February Ul‘ Work was stopped on an overseas, shiji at Auckland on Monday through* the men on one hold claiming extra rates* No agreement was come to, and the men were stood down two days. The union informed the employers that until the penalty was remitted no farther union labour would be on offer. Work continues on other ships, but no vessel arriving to-day will secure waterfront labour. This was stated to-day by Mr Bennett, general secretary of the Waterside Employers’ Association. Some 240 engagements were exhibited on the engagement board, at the bureau this morning, but members of the union refused to take discs. Eight hundred men, however, are working ships that were already working before the dispui«> arose.

FULL RESUMPTION TO-MORROW [Pee Uneteo Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February 14,' Because of dissatisfaction among the men, arising out of a refusal by the employers of waterfront labour to adjust disputes relating to insufficient head room in ships’ holds and adopting the course .of referring the matter of payment for such work ■to the National Disputes Committee, a gang of Auckland waterside workers engaged on overseas vessels refused to work oh Monday. They were dismissed and placed on a two-day penalty. The next day a conference was held between the union and the employers.; The latter refused to remit any portion; Of the penalty. The union therefor* decided that no labour would be available for any new job to-day. _ Two hundred and forty-one men are involved. A further conference was held today, and a decision made that vessel* be manned in the ordinary way tomorrow.
