FIRST SHOOT OF SEASON The first shoot of the 1940 programme was held on the Dunedin Gun Club’s grounds at Green Island last Saturday. The weather was unfavourable, a strong south-westerly wind accompanied by rain squalls making the shooting difficult. In the first match, a 15-bird handicap. W. Elliott (14yds) and P. E. Wood (11yds) tied for first place. Both registcrcd possibles. They were followed by S. F. Aburn (13yds) 14, R. Bruce (llvds) 14, G. T. Turner (17yds) 13, T. *B. M'Kinlay (16yds) 13, W. Morland (11yds) 13, J. Paterson (11yds) 13, R. M'Donald (18yds) 12, A. Campbell (11yds) 12, R. Maxwell (11yds) 12, Dr Greenslade (11yds) 12. J. K. Begg (11yds), and T. Woodford (11yds) 11, The 10-bird matches followed, shot on the five-track system. The first resulted in a tie between W. Morland (12yds) and ,R. Bruce (12yds), both breaking 10 birds. Other scores were as follows;—A. Campbell (12yds) and P. E. Wood (12yds) 9; G. E. Turner (17yds). W. Elliott (Isyds), and J. 'B. Craigie (12yds) 8; T. B. M'Kinlay (16yds). S, F. Aburn (14yds), J, K. Begg (12yds), and Dr Greenslade (12yds) 7. The second 10-bird match was' won outright by W. Elliott, off 14yds, with a possible. G. E. Turner (17yds) was second with nine breaks, and S. F. Aburn, J. K. Begg, A. Campbell, and P. E. Wood all broke eight birds. Air W. R. Alorland was the referee.
