SOLDIERS GOING ABROAD SCORE OF PROVISIONS FOR PAYMENTS APPLICATION FORMS MADE AVAILABLE Financial assistance to soldiers going overseas with the second N.Z.E.F. would be paid by the Soldiers’ Financial Assistance Board through the State Advances Corporation up to a maximum of £156 a year, according to a circular letter tabled at the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association meeting last night. Notification was given that assistance would be granted to those men going overseas with the first echelon, and succeeding echelons, who were unable to meet their financial obligations, while their dependents would also be assisted. “ It is a pretty solid form soldiers have to fill in, ” with a tremendous amount of detail,” said Mr O. L. Ferens, in stating that these could be obtained at Money Order Offices or from the State Advances Corporation. Provision was made for payment of rent; interest on loans or mortgages for business or house purchases; for furniture purchases outstanding; tor rates and taxes: insurance premiums; and other necessary or. reasonable expenses not incurred in property purchases. Assistance will not be granted for the discharge of ordinary debts, nor will exceed in any one case £156 a year. Application ’ should be made by the soldier himself except where he is already overseas, when applications may be made by any person authorised by the soldier'to do so. These requests should be made on forms supplied for the purpose and sent to the nearest office of the State _ Advances Corporation. for consideration by the Soldiers’ Financial Assistance Board. All grants will he subject to revision, and may be increased, reduced, or withdrawn at the discretion of the board.
