ANOTHER YEAR'S ACTIVITY
AMATEUR WOODWORKERS' CLUB INTERESTING LECTURE ARRANGED The activities of the Dunedin Amateur Woodworkers’ and Handicrafts Club have raised considerable interest outside Dunedin. This is the only organisation of ite bind in the Dominion, and recently information about its membership and its rules generally were asked for by persons in Auckland who are considering forming a similar club there. Naturally, as is the case with other clubs, the war has interfered with the programme of the Woodworkers’ Club to a degree, but it has certainly not affected the enthusiasm of the members. The value of such a club during war could be indicated by the fact that were it found necessary useful articles for injured soldiers might be made by members who were not called up later for active service, but who would naturally wish to assist in every way possible. Just now, following the holidays, the club’s affairs have started to move again, and though throughout the vacation there were several members taking advantage of the time to manufacture articles, the majority had not visited the workshop in George street until the past fortnight. However, now that activities have again become normal more enthusiasts of this very useful occupation have been there nightly. For the first lecture and general meeting of the year on Wednesday, February 28, at 7.45 p.m., a most interesting subject that should give a wide appeal has been chosen by the ispeaker, Mr W. 0. White. He is to talk about timber from the mill to the bench. Several times last year attendances at these educative functions were not at all satisfactory, and it is expected that there _ will be a full gallery of members this time.
