Another explosion—the third within a few days—oeneath the wheels of a Wellington trainear occurred shortly before 9 o’clock to-night. The tramcar, which was leaving the city for the Centennial Exhibition, was turning from Cuba street into Webb street when there was a loud explosion from under the leading wheels. The passengers and residents of the locality were alarmed bv the noise. T lie tram was brought to a stop by the motormau ■within a few yards. An investigation revealed no damage and nobody was hurt. From the character of the explosion the tramway authorities believe it was caused by a detonator maliciously placed on the line. Detectives are investigating. The first explosion, which badly damaged a tramcar in Berhampore last Wednesday night, is_ still the subject of police inquiry. It is understood that a considerable amount of evidence has been collected. After the explosion a quantity of residue in the form of powder was obtained from the track, and this is being chemically analysed. The police are believed to nave taken a number of statements from persons who may be able to throw light ou the occurrence. The second explosion occurred in Vivan street on Thursday morning. No damage . was done and it is thought that it was caused by a detonator.
