ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS

CAR WRECKED—MINOR INJURIES TO OCCUPANTS. Five persons received slight injuries when two motor cars collided head-on in a heavy rainstorm on the main road 10 miles south of Hastings late on Saturday afternoon. The injured people were: Clement Leonard Maskey, William Alsbp, Stewart Munro, K. Better, and Miss Katherin Williams. All suffered cuts about the head, abrasions, and shock. The men are all residents of Palmerston North, _ and the woman is a former sister in a Hastings private hospital. The vehicles were practically wrecked by the severity of the impact. FATAL INJURY. James Miller, aged nine, was knocked down by a motor car late on Sunday afternoon, and died soon after. The lad suffered severe head injuries, and died before he reached the Invercargill Hospital. FATAL SEIZURE. Drummond Pringle, a married man, aged 58, employed by the Cromwell Development Company at Ripponvale, was found dead in bed' at his residence, Kawarau Gorge, at an early hour on Saturday morning. Death had occurred! as the result of a seizure. There will be no inquest. 7 BURNS CAUSE DEATH. The adjourned inquest into the death of Wilfred John Oliver, which occurred in .the Cromwell Hospital on February 1, was held on Friday before the district coroner (Mr E. Jolly). After evidence concerning the deceased’s admission to the hospital had been given, a verdict was returned that death was due to toxic absorption, following burns received when lighting tar kettle fires. GORED BY BULL. When he was gored by a bull yesterday afternoon, Robert Clark, an elderly man living at Hooper’s Inlet, suffered badly lacerated thighs. He was admitted to Hospital at 6 o’clock yesterday evening. FALL IN STREET. Mary Barr, an elderly woman, residing at Palmerston, suffered a fracture of the right hip when she fell in the street on Friday. She was admitted to the Hospital at 3 p.m. on Saturday. FRACTURED ARM. While taking part in a ; race at a picnic at Fraser’s Gully on Saturday, Edith Wynn, a middle-aged woman, fell and fractured her left arm. The injured woman, who resides at 1 Baxter street, Maori Hill, was admitted to the Hospital at 4.30 p.m.
