Despite the reputed slowness of the water in the Riddiford baths, it is possible the New Zealand record will < be broken in the final of the 22yds men’s breast stroke championship. In the first heat on Saturday W. Dyson (Otago) covered the distance in 3min 1 3-ssec, which is only 1 3-ssec outside the record established ; last April by J. Davis,-of Taranaki. Early in the ; race K. Shaw (Southland) took the lead, and Dyson stayed at his elbow till the last 30yds, when he went ahead to win by a length. ' The second heat was much slower, and Gedcles (Otago) was well back third. - A southerly change and heavy rain in the late afternoon caused a postponement of -the night programme,■ eluding the sprint and the > 22(V1ireast stroke finals till Tuesday-night. .
