REGENT

A drama of great .power, 1 Jamaica Inn,’ is at tho Regent. Full of stirring action, it is dominated by Charles Laughton’s remarkable performance of tho dual-sided squire of ancient lineage who becomes also a wrecker in order to get sufficient money on which to keep up a dignified appearance, the lives of lesser people weighing' as nothing against his needs. As the titled squire Laughton is a man of culture and groat generosity; as the wrecker ho is a cold-blooded devil. Tho picture opens with a scene showing a vessel driven on tho rocks as the squire’s man puts out any warning lights. Horror is plantifiil in spectacular action, and throughout an underlying sense of dread prevails.
