EMPLOYEES' PICNIC
HOGG AND GO. The annual picnic was held at Wingatui racecourse on Saturday. Although the weather was cold at the outset, conditions improved as the day wore on, except for an occasional shower. Mr W. Marshall presented tho prizes at the conclusion of the day, and also apologised for the absence of the general manager, Mr Grant. Mr J. Bourke was the official starter, and got tho fields away to a good start, especially the youths’ handicap, which was once round the course—something like one and a-quarter miles. This .race caused a great deal of interest, and a close finish resulted. Winner and place-getters received a great ovation on returning to the birdcage, especially after it was discovered that a course record ha'd been established. The children were well catered for, .there being ic cream, lollies,- fruit, and soft drinks in plenty, and toys were given to the young generation. Race results: — Youths’ Handicap.—T. Connell 1, J.
