AN EXPLANATION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—On account of the hundreds of inquiries we have received, we ask you to be so kind as to make this statement public. Nearly everybody I have eonie in contact with is of the opinion that we are receiving our house rent free. People of other towns are. also' of this opinion. Our house is leased to us for 10 years, two of which have now passed. Our tenancy is at the rate of £1 7s 6d per week,.and not 25s as stated. If one is lucky enough to be on the spot each fortnight, then a rebate' of 5s (2s 6d per week) is handed back. I know at least one State Advance tenant who, having found the office closed during the Christinas, lost her half-crowns. This rebate has been considered a nuisance by some tenants. At' the end of 10 years we are just where we began, and we will still own not one brick on the property. We are now unable to stay jn our house as we cannot face the upkeep, and we would be more than grateful if we could rent a house at, 6ay, 2os a week nearer the city or south end.—We are,-etc., , < George Johnson, Kathieen Johnson. February 9.
