JAPANESE AIR RAIDS NAVAL SPOKESMAN'S EXPLANATION Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright TOKIO, February 8. Rear-Admiral Masao Kanazawa, the naval spokesman, reiterated that Japan would bomb Yunnan Railway as long as it was used to move Chinese war sup* plies. Referring to the recent attack, ha asserted that the bombers intended to wreck a bridge instead of a train, and Japan would recompense bona .fide, injured. Commenting on the statement that the Netherlands was prepared to increase the defences in the East Indies, he said it perhaps could be attributed to misunderstanding Japan’s southward! policy, which was solely economic? Ho further denied that Japan was constructing bases in South Pacific mandated areas. ' . AIR ATTACKS DN JAPAN CHINESE PREPARATIONS REPORTED TOKIO, February 8. It has been authoritatively stated that Japan has definite grounds for believing that the Chinese are planning air raids on Japan, While details are withheld, the defences are being strengthened. REPORT DENIED CHUNGKING, February 8. (Received February 8, at 10.5 a.m.) The Government Spokesman denied the Japanese reports that the Chines# are planning air raids.
