SPIRITED REJOINDER

DANISH PRESS AND THE SEA WAR NAZI ATTACKS ON NEUTRAL SHIPS (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, February 8. (Received February 9, at 10.30 a.m.) The Press gives attention to the spirited Press rejoinder from Denmark to German attempts simultaneously to alarm neutral shipping by indiscriminate attacks on the sea and to browbeat the neutral Press, which, according to German protests, has given more prominence to the British report of the recent Nazi air raid on shipping off the English coast than to the German version. Opposite comment is made on the subject of the attacks on neutral shipping by the Copenhagen newspaper, ‘ Berlingske Tidende.’ It says that “ what in Germany is regarded as a triumph for German arms is for Denmark only too often a sad message of death to Danish seamen, pain and suffering to Danish homes, and the loss of valuable cargo and ships. The German Press must thus not be surprised if events in the sea war received treatment in the Danish Press different from what had been expected and if Danish public opinion reacts in a way not expressive of sympathy or admiration.” ' AIRCRAFT PRODUCTION MANUFACTURE IN AUSTRALIA THOUSANDS OF PLANES TO BE BUILT SYDNEY, February 8. Amin Osman Pasha, Under-Secretary for Finance, toasting England and Egypt at a banquet which was attended by representatives of all political parties, announced that a fund had been opened for the benefit of British troops in Egypt “ as an expression of Egypt’s appreciation of those bearing the brunt of the country’s defence.” Donations had already been received from leading Egyptians, including the Premier and members of the Cabinet and the Opposition. He added that Egypt now had perfect trust in England. “We are allied with England not because we have signed a treaty, but because we are fighting England’s cause —namely, justice. We will be England’s ally whatever happens.” Sir Miles Lampson, replying, said that the existing close Anglo-Egyptian co-operation was one of the few good things created by the present unhappy state of the world. He added that Britain was determined to abide loyally by the treaty alliance and respect Egypt’s rights. GERMAN WORKERS DISMISSED BY TURKISH AUTHORITIES ISTANBUL, February 8.
