FORECAST OF VICEROY S OFFER BRITAIN RETAINING DEFENCE CONTROL CALCUTTA, February 3. Tho * Star of India ’ says that the Viceroy, .when he meets Mr Gandhi on February 5, will offer him dominion status after the war, Britain retaining defence control for 30 years. Statutory committees will be suggested for each province to safeguard minorities. Britain’s condition is that the Congress Governments which resigned shall return to office immediately and co-operate in tho war effort. MAGNIFICENT HELP THE DOMINIONS’ WAR EFFORT LONDON, February 3. Mr Anthony Eden ; in a speech at Stratford, said: “This is not a war of aggrandisement or a clash of dynasties. It is a struggle for international decency. Tho first German aircraft carrier, the Graf Zeppelin (19,250 tons), will be completed in May and will he employed as a commerce raider. PRISONERS OF WAR CREWS OF LOST SUBMARINES LONDON, February 3. The Admiralty now believes that the entire crews of tho submarines Starfish and Undine, numbering 67 officers and men, are alive as prisoners of war in Germany. There is, however, no news of the Seahorse’s crew, ana it is feared that all perished. RUNNING THE BLOCKADE ' GERMAN MERCHANTMAN’S VENTURE RECIFE (Brazil), February 3. Tho Wolfsburg has sailed in an attempt to run the blockade. Twelve remaining German merchantmen are loading meat, cotton, rubber, and lard. BRITAIN AND TURKEY TRADE AGREEMENT SIGNED LONDON, February 3. The Anglo-Turkish trade and payments agreement has been signed in London. The new agreement consolidates and slightly modifies the existing agreements. The text will be published as soon as possible. CITY OF FLINT'S CARGO SAFE ARRIVAL IN ENGLAND LONDON, February 3. Despite Nazi boasts that the City of Flint’s cargo would never reach England, the last consignment has arrived at Liverpool and Manchester. The perishable portions were sold by auction at'Bergen and the remainder was shipped to England. It included madiinery and raw materials.

MISLEADING BROADCASTS MOVEMENTS OF FRENCH VESSEL LONDON, February 3. The safe arrival at Buenos Aires of the French vessel Jamaique disposes of the suggestion contained in a recent German broadcast. This stated that the Jamaique, together with the Highland Patriot, the Highland Monarch. and the Andalucia Star were overdue, not having been heard of for over a fortnight. In fact, the Highland Patriot left Santos for Rio on January 29, and the Highland Monarch arrived at Buenos Aires on the same day. The Andalucia Star is not yet due at Buenos Aires, but her whereabouts is known.
