Miss Harper Allan, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs H. de C. M‘Arthur, St. Clair.

Mr and Mrs Richard Hudson and Mrs Dora Smeaton left during the week on a visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs W.’ Berryman, Roxburgh, are the guests of Mrs Dickie, Warrington.

Miss Dunsford, Christchurch, who has been the guest of Miss Holford, returned home yesterday, . Mrs J. G. Johnston, Lynwood Avenue, is paying a short visit to Wellington. * The Logan Park Croquet Club hold a very successful gala day on its lawns on Thursday.' Winners of the competitions were:—Mrs Hayes, J. Leckie, lan Murdoch, and Mrs Robertson; games— Mrs ’ M'Donald, Mrs Beck, Mrs Campbell, and Mrs M'Donald.

Mr and Mrs J. W. Dove left to-day for Wellington. Mrs Dove will afterwards pay a visit to her son in Masterton.

Mrs James Dey and Mrs J. W. Patton left for Invercargill yesterday to attend the wedding of their nephew, Mr Desmond Patton.

Miss Noreen Meenan and' Mr Frank Meenan, jun,, are visiting Wellington for the Eucharistic Congress celebrations.

Misses Grace Mosley and Gladys Pringle were joint hostesses at a supper party at the Savoy on Tuesday night, the guest of honour being Miss Margaret Treaoy, whose marriage takes place on Saturday, and who was the recipient of many useful gifts. Those present were Mesdames T. Treacy, (R. Prisk, T. Treacy, jim., Misses Margaret Kearney, Margaret M‘Bride, Doris Pringle, and Moya Prisk.

A most enjoyable supper party was given in the Tudor Hall on Friday evening, when the nursing staff of the Queen Mary Hospital entertained two of their members, Misses E. F. Hill and G. Savage, who shortly leave to take up positions in the north. Those present were:—Misses E, F. Hill, G. Savage, K. Aslin, Y. Laing, D. Cheyne, D. Drew, L. Dockerty, M. Millar, M. Collier, E. Purves, and B. Whittington.

The Mieses Alice and Violet Fyffe, Invercargill, were hostesses at an afternon tea party in the Savoy on Wednesday, when the guests included Mesdames E. Falconer, L. E. Penrose, Douglas Skene, W. Dali, Norman Giljnour, and Miss Hilda Falconer. The flowers in the Savoy were particularly lovely, bowls of hydrangeas and dahlias making a charming background for the many parties. The Misses Fyffe, who have been .the guests of Mrs E. Falconer, Paife street, left on Thursday on their return to Southland.

Professor and Mrs Sinirk and their twin sous have arrived in Dunedin and are staying at present at the City Hotel. Their journey from England was rather a momentous one, as with only two other passengers, a Czech and an Australian, they travelled in a 23,000-ton ship with the whole vessel at their disposal and 250 members of the purser’s department to do their bidding. Mrs Smirk is an efficient and experienced organiser, as she was before her marriage an almoner in a London hospital. She lias devoted much time lately in England to conducting classes in first aid and home nursing.

.On Friday last, January 28, Mr and Mrs Walter ;Singleton celebrated their golden wedding at the residence of their daughter and son-in-law (Mr and Mrs John Reynolds), Dahnore. Mr and Mrs Singleton were married in 1890 at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Hayfield, Derbyshire, near Manchester, England and came to New Zealand 36 years ago. Their family, together with a few friends, were happy to honour the occasion, and the usual toasts were well received. Among the guests were. Mr and Mrs J. Reynolds, Mr and Mrs J. Munro, Mr and Mrs Smith, Mr and Mrs Kilgariif, and Mr and Mrs J. Haig, Misses O. Reynolds. A. Munro, I. Singleton. P. Joseph, R. Haig, Messrs L. Reynolds, D. MTntosh, and R. Miles.

A very happy function was held in the R.S.A. Rooms last Tuesday, when over 80 guests met to do honour to Miss Evelyn Lois Grave, of Oamaru, and Mr Ernest Rowland Duncan, who are to be married in Oamaru. Games and dancing occupied the greater part of the evening. As a very enjoyable interlude several songs were rendered and received with great appreciation. Those contributing were Miss Coa Mercer, Rev. Crozier, of Oamaru, and Mr Eric Johnson. Later in the evening Mr M‘Lean proposed the toast of the guests of honour, and Mr E. R. Duncan suitably replied. The singing of ‘ Auld Lang Syne ’ brought , a very successful evening to a close.

This afternoon, at her residence, “ Torwood,” St. Clair, Mrs Winston Brinsley was hostess at a “linen” party, given in honour of a brideelect, Miss Syd. Wren, whose marriage will take place in the Malay States. The lounge was beautifully decorated with bowls of bright red gladioli, and the tea table with dainty Iceland poppies. Mrs Brinsley wore a becoming frock of navy and white sheer, while the guest of honour chose an uncommon frock in moss green and brown striped Swiss muslin, worn with a widebrimmed hat of burnt straw. The other guests were Mesdames P. M. Wren, A. Gamble, A. C. Paterson, W. M'Kenssie, C. R. Benfield, A. Barnett, A. Smellie, Weaver, Hazelwood, Leahy, John Benfield, W. R. Brinsley, E. H. Eunnerstrum, S. Westlake, j. Charlton Edgar, and the Misses Rena Port'eous, and Peggy Bruce. This evening Mrs J. M'Dougall will entertain Miss Wren at a dinner party at her home in Dunottar.

Mrs Murray, accompanied by her brother, Mr John M'llroy, left by the second express this morning to visit the Exhibition, en route to Rotorua and Auckland, where they will be the guests of their sister, Mrs T. Callander, Point Chevalier. Provincial Items. Miss A. Blair, Oamaru, is visiting her mother, Mrs M. Blair, Lawrence. Miss Templeton, Waimahaka, is visiting Mrs G. Ellis, Lawrence. Miss Edna Jones, Beaumont, left on Monday with her aunt, Mrs Davey, of Dunedin, on holiday visit to the Exhibition and Auckland. Mr and Mrs G. Weston, of Lawrence, left on Wednesday on a visit to Christchurch. Miss J. Drew, of the St. Patrick’s Presbytery, Lawrence, has left for Gore to reside with her sister, Mrs Cummings, Miss Drew has been at the Presbytery for about 18 years, and before that for about 30 years was on the staff of the Tuapeka Hospital. Mrs T. Harper and family, of Roxburgh, have returned after spending a holiday at Invercargill and Riverton.

Mr and Mrs A. H. H. Webster and family, Roxburgh, are spending a short camping holiday at the Lakes. Mrs E. Bennetts, Mrs W- Elder, and Miss A. Elder, of Roxburgh, are spending a holiday at Pembroke.
