USE THE COMPASS A quick and simple way to determine if the output valve is getting its current or not is to place a small vesfpocket compass on top of the output filter choke. Deflection of the compass needle will indicate that the current is flowing. This idea is equally applicable to other plate leads, providing they are choke or transformer fed. Even r.f. chokes will show some deflection. Using the compass in this way greatly facilitates fault-finding, and is much easier than other methods.
