HOLLYWOOD AUTUMN MODES The ladies are urged to be very tranik about their figures this fall. To wear the new fashions they must be as revealing of their lines as is compatible with good lines. Last spring fashions gave women a “ little girl ” look. This fall and winter they must dress like worldly sophisticates. Noted Authority. elongated look with drapings, tunics, and yokes at the hips. Velvet for Deanna. Velvet will hold sway for the daytime and formal evening gown this winter. Deanna Durbin, in her sixth starring picture, wears an African sapphire blue Lyons velvet dinner gown, designed by Vera West. Wearing it, Deanna looks as though she had stepped out of an. old portrait. The bodice is tightly fitted and the skirt stands out stiffly in deep folds. A heavy cable cord of the velvet at the hem and just above it a border of appliqued white Point Venise lace form a richly novel skirt treatment. Point Venise lace is also used for yoke filling in the square cut neckline, and for the matching headdress, which is a cross between a baby bonnet and a Juliet cap.
